This Week at SYME

Actually, I have been at SYME for two weeks. Last week I was preparing lesson plans and helping type out some material for the staff. This past week I have been teaching the classes that I was preparing for last week. I am very much enjoying spending time with the students. Actually it's nice to see the building a year after later... Its looking much better. Also they have a Nintendo Wii in the lobby and that's a huge improvement (as opposed to no Wii at all, which would leave us basically where we started) .

Last weekend was "Friend Day" for the students. That is always on the last day of the semester. They were all practicing for weeks to get ready, and every student was involved in some way for friend day. It was held at Karuizawa Union Church.

We have Korean and Japanese students at SYME, and four of them were graduating on Friend Day. For the Korean students this really was the last full day they were in Japan before they had to go back to Korea for the summer. The reason I am still here is because the Japanese students have on more week of classes after the Koreans leave.
One of the Students who graduated this semester is Manna. She is a friend of mine that I met when she was at SYME in Korea, and I got to spend time with her last summer. I was even able to help her study her English last year while I was here, and I am really proud of her! She plans to go to school in New York in the fall. GOOD JOB MANNA!

I am having a blast Jay! And actually the new Pumpkins CD just came out here but I am going to wait a couple weeks so I can rent it. Japan has a great cd rental program that I fully intend to take advantage of while I'm here.
