Travels in the 'Eastern Capitol' 東京

I've spent some time around Tokyo this week. By now, after three trips here, I think I've seen most of the city. Of course, I've seen some places closer than others, and I know my way around some neighborhoods much better than others. I recently went up to the top floor of the Carrot Tower in my adopted home town of Sangenjaya and took some pictures.

If you look directly in the center of the above photo you can see Emi's house, where I am staying this summer. Pictured below is a shot of down town Shinjuku as seen from the opposite side of the Carrot Tower. I'm seriously testing the digital zoom on my camera here; it is farther away that it appears.

Shibuya crossing; nearly empty on this particular day

Yesterday Emi and I went out to a Soba place for lunch in Sangenjaya. Soba is made from buckwheat and is typically served chilled with a cup of soy dipping sauce, although you can order it hot in a soup similar to ramen noodles. This place is fun because they give you your own wasabi root to make fresh wasabi for yourself. Much tastier when its fresh IMO.
Mmm...you're jealous :P

...As an aside; I went to a karaoke place for the first time last night. I've seriously tried to avoid this up until now, but it was a friend's birthday and I was feeling the peer pressure. The two songs I sang?

1. Tears for Fears - Everybody Wants To Rule the World
2. Marvin Gaye - Lets Get It On
