Okonomiyaki Adventures

Kazu and Amy left Japan for New York a couple days ago but it was alot of fun hanging out with them while they were around. We went one night to a little Okonomiyaki place thats just a 10 minute walk from the house.

It was a cool place. Very small, with only two tables and a bar for people to eat at. Because there were six of use, we waited for over an hour so we could all sit together at a table. It was a low table and we sat on cushions on the floor and they brought the okonomiyaki to us and sat it on hot plates that were in the center of the table. It was delish!
You saw my pictures from the kids festival but now let me tell you the rest of the story... In the early morning hours of last Sunday I awoke to a strange sound that I assumed in my half awake, half asleep state was heavy rain. It was not yet 5:00am so I tried my best to fall back asleep. About five minutes later I heard people shouting but I could not understand their hurried Japanese speech. Again I tried to fall back asleep. Then at about 5:20 I got up to see why it seemed even more people were making noise outside. Of course now I know it was because the house across the street was on fire...

Actually it was some old couches burning that some gaijins had left in the side street next to their apartment. The fire had caused a water pipe to burst and that mixed with the sound of the flames was what I had at first thought was the sound of rain. I went and got Emi and she took some pictures but only after some one had put out the flames. And of course the fire department showed up after the fire was out and they parked their large and noisy truck directly under my window. They stayed until around 8:00am and so I stayed awake. The first service starts at 9:00 and I attended to just stay awake, but as soon as the fire engine left, I fell asleep. Emi made sure I was awake for the second service because we were helping with the kids Sunday School. Right after that we started getting ready for the kids to arrive for the festival. And that is the story of why I was so tired last Sunday.

Oh, I should have brought my camera but I was too nervous at the time... I fell asleep after I went back because I put some ear plugs in. hehehe.

Oh and you forgot to add that there was an OPEN GYM after the crazy festival so it was a long tiring day!! (but FUN)

Hey Jamie, I checked out your blog. Your kids are the cutest. And I see that you made it to NY City! I'm glad you guys got to go before you left. I hope you had fun.

And yes Luke, it is hard to keep up with Emi. I just read her blog then try to add some of the interesting details that she leaves out. I like to think that gives my readers a more intimate experiance :P
