We visited the Meiji Shine before Kazu and Amy Left. It is a Shintoist temple, and very beautiful and quit famous. While we were there we saw Koreans, and many westerners who were there either to worship or just take pictures like us.

They ask that every one wash there hands and lips before they enter the inner temple area. It makes sense Biblically; symbolically having clean hands and lips before god. I washed my hands to be polite but not my lips, since I had no plans on praying in the temple.

This tree is sacred and is surrounded by a wooden fence where you can hang your prayers on wood slates for only ¥500. That's about $5. That's a fair price if you consider that it pretty much guarantees that god will hear your prayer.

Only the monks are allowed past this point.

The Meiji Shine is very famous for its Iris garden. It was beautiful but we missed the best time for the flowers by about 3 weeks.

There was a pond past the garden and it was filled with fish and turtles and all these lilly pads. This man was painting the scene, and tried really hard to pretend he didn't like getting his picture taken.
